The Llano River offers some
of the best fishing in the region. Lake Buchanan, built in 1938 as a
hydro-generating project, has 23,000 surface acres. White, striped,
spotted and largemouth bass as well as catfish, crappie and walleye
attract fishermen all year.
Also of interest is Inks Lake State Park, a 1,200-acre panorama of
woods and pink granite outcroppings that borders Inks Lake. You'll
also enjoy Colorado Bend State Park, 710-acre LBJ State Park, Black
Rock Park, Lady Bird Johnson Park, the scenic 4,800-acre Pedernales
Falls State Park, Robinson City Park, Shaw Island Park and Burnet
Park.
The Llano Basin has the highest density of deer in the United States
and Llano County is considered by many hunters to be the deer hunting
capital of Texas. This area is also one of the best in the state for
bow hunting. There are seasons for hogs, turkey, dove, quail and duck
and year-round hunting on several exotic game ranches.
Also of interest is the Eckert James River Bat Cave, a unique preserve
that is home to 6 million Mexican free-tailed bats. |

Birding is big in the area as well,
with over 620 species of birds.
If you'd rather chase little white balls, the beautiful 18-hole
Llano Golf Course can be found on the Llano River.
